Meet our Team of Independent Financial Advisers

When selecting an Independent Financial Adviser, it is important to establish that they are not only authorised but also independent, suitably qualified and experienced. We are confident that we fit these criteria and more.

We have four qualified advisers including Jim Boddey who is a Chartered Financial Planner. All specialise in different areas but all have a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of financial planning. In addition to our advisers, there is back-up from qualified and experienced administrators who ensure that there is always continuity of support and a point of contact.

Scott Gibbons - Director & Financial Adviser

I joined financial services in 1994 with the Wesleyan as a Home Services Representative. Whilst enjoying this role, I began to feel more and more uncomfortable with being able to advise only on one product. Recognising that I could do a better job for my clients by being independent, I left and started my career as an IFA. The highlight of my career to date was setting up Adanac in 2002 and since then watching it grow and become part of the business community in the South West.

Previously I was in the Royal Navy and served with the Royal Marines.

I have two beautiful girls, Mary aged 15 and Alice aged 12. In my spare time, I try to keep fit and compete in Water Ski Racing at national level in the UK and Europe.

Rob Shire - Financial Adviser

I joined Lloyds bank in March 1993 as a Financial Adviser and achieved much success. I completed 11 years and joined Adanac in April 2004. I felt that the box I was working in at the Bank was too small. Even with all the advantages and unlimited resources of the Bank, something was missing. I was able to offer clients only products and little in the way of advice in other areas of financial planning. The natural move for me was to become independent, giving me the freedom to advise, rather than sell and to provide unbiased advice across a broad spectrum.

This has been proven now as most banks have withdrawn from the advice arena.

I now specialise in a few areas, mainly pensions and investments. I help clients with planning for retirement and the best way to draw benefits. Most people tend to buy, hold and hope that their investments work and rarely sell if a fund or share is doing well. I find a more structured approach works better.

I get involved with companies, advising Directors on protecting their companies properly, looking after and setting up company pension schemes and access to company benefits.

I can help mortgage applicants who do not necessarily fit every high street lenders criteria or who require independent advice on competitive mortgage rates.

I am happily married to Sharon, live in Yeovil and have two young children: Daisy and Tom.

James Boddey – Chartered Financial Planner

I am a Chartered Financial Planner with over twenty five years’ experience in financial services.

I specialise in the pensions, at retirement and investment arenas. I also specialise in the area of pensions within the divorce process and work with both family lawyers and their clients in this difficult area.

I am an active member within the Somerset, Dorset and Devon collaborative law groups, a Resolution Accredited divorce specialist and affiliate member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

I live near Castle Cary and when not spending time looking after the garden, I spend my spare time walking in the countryside or trying to improve my skills at clay pigeon shooting.

Phil Leigh - Financial Adviser

I previously worked for HSBC for over 30 years with a large part of my time spent as a Financial Adviser. Whilst my wife and I were relocating to the South West, it seemed a good opportunity for a career change which would enable me to advise on all products and companies. With HSBC I was far more restricted.

At present I live in the Blackdown Hills with my wife, Sandra; and we both enjoy gardening and walking in the beautiful countryside. I also enjoy the occasional game of golf.
