Meet the Team
When selecting an IFA it is important to establish that they are not only authorised but also independent, suitably qualified and experienced. We, at Adanac, are confident that we fit these criteria and more.
We have five qualified advisers, with specialities in different areas, but all with a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of financial planning. In addition to the advisers, there is back up from qualified and experienced administrators who ensure there is always a continuity of support and contact.

Scott Gibbons - Director & Financial Adviser
I joined financial services in 1994 with the Wesleyan as a Home Services Representative. Whilst enjoying this role, I began to feel more and more uncomfortable with being able to advise only on one product. Recognising that I could do a better job for my clients by being independent, I left and started my career as an IFA. The highlight of my career to date was setting up Adanac in 2001 and since then watching it grow and become part of the business community in the South West.
Previously I was in the Royal Navy and served with the Royal Marines.
I have two girls, Mary 11 and Alice 8, both of whom attend St Gregory’s in Marnhull, Dorset. In my spare time I try to keep fit and compete in Water Ski Racing at National level in the UK and Europe.
Qualifications:
Financial Planning Certificate (FPC)
Mortgage Advice and Practice (CEMAP)
Lifetime & Home Reversion (ER1)
Long Term Care (CF8)

James Boddey - Financial Adviser
I have over twenty years experience in financial services, starting my career in financial services as a representative for the Refuge. I progressed fairly swiftly to area manager. I enjoyed my role, but as time progressed I was feeling more and more constrained by being able to talk to my clients only about products and not being able to advise on their overall position. I made the move to becoming independent in 1999 and have not looked back since.
I live near Castle Cary with my wife Sue. I spend my spare time walking in the countryside and trying to improve my skills at clay pigeon shooting.

James Hewitt - Financial Adviser
Originally I trained and worked as an Accountant. I started to work for myself in 2001, managing the financial affairs and preparation of accounts for several firms in Somerset and Dorset. This provided me with valuable experience and an insight into the day-to-day running of many different businesses. One of my clients was Adanac. Over time I became more and more interested in the work the advisers were doing at Adanac and could see a synergy between my work and theirs. I decided to train as an adviser and achieved my qualification with the support of Adanac by the beginning of 2008. I now work at Adanac on a full-time basis whilst still providing support for some of the local businesses I worked for.
In my spare time I enjoy playing any sport, in particular golf, football and squash. I also like to travel as much as possible. I live with my partner Jackie in Bridport and we are expecting our first child in June.
Qualifications:
Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (FMAAT)
Certificate in Financial Planning (CertPFS)
Mortgages (CF6)
Long Term Care (CF8)
Personal Tax (J01)

Jon Sear - Financial Adviser
I have accumulated over 25 years experience in Financial Services. Much of this was within the banking and mortgage Industry with companies such as Nat West, Royal Bank of Scotland and ING Direct where I was involved in a number of different management roles.
Having decided that Banking was no longer the fulfilling career I had chosen, I joined Adanac in November 2006 following a family move to the 'sunny' South West. I have two children, both in their early 20's, who are now starting their own careers following the expensive years (for me!) at University. I have been married to Helen since 1981, we now have a lovely home just outside Bridport, which enables us to enjoy the beautiful Dorset countryside from our doorstep, along with our not so obedient dog!
I am qualified to advise in most areas of financial planning and always aim to combine both technical and life experience skills to find the right solutions for my clients.
Qualifications:
Certificate for Financial Advisers (CeFA )
Mortgage Advice and Practice (CEMAP)
Lifetime Mortgages (CF7)
Home Reversion (HR1)
Long Term Care (CF8)

Rob Shire - Financial Adviser
I joined Lloyds Bank in March 1993 as a Financial Adviser and achieved much success. Nationally I was in the top 5% of advisers. Even so, I soon found that, even with all the advantages and unlimited resources of the Bank, something was missing. I was able to offer clients only products and little in the way of advice in other areas of financial planning. The natural move for me was to become independent, giving me the freedom to advise, rather than sell, and to provide unbiased advice across a broad spectrum.
I chose Adanac, as they are client driven and not target orientated, as many of the high street names are. I have been at Adanac for five years and proud to have been a part of the company's growth and look forward to the next chapter.
I am happily married to Sharon, living in Yeovil and have two children; Daisy aged 3, and Tom who is 1.
Qualifications:
Financial Planning Certificate (FPC)
Mortgage Advice and Practice (CEMAP)
Lifetime & Home Reversion (ER1)
Home Reversion (HR1)
